It's always a wondrous moment when you discover a new author. I stumbled upon Magen McMinimy on my kindle the other day and decided to check her books out.

I have to say I quite liked her writing style. It's witty and light and quite humorous. Her characters are delightful , well thought out and realistic. I started this book and by page two I was hooked and found myself turning page after page. My one and only complaint was the length . I am not one for short stories , for I think it takes a seriously talented author to pack a great story in so few pages. Now Ms. McMinimy has what it takes , the story although short did not lack in any area. I do believe if she combined a few of the books in the series that they would fare better. But as I am severely judgemental when it comes to short stories it just may be only me that feels this way.

On to the story and characters.....

First an foremost the story itself is an amazing one , add in amazing characters and BAM ! You have a phenomenal book. Sophia is an exceptional leading lady . I love that she has a fierce side and a playful side. She's quite quirky and cute. Then we have her background which I find absolutely intriguing . Throw in a hot steamy, totally swoonworty vampire named Dante and BOOM ! This story hits the next level.

From Beginning to end this story drags you in and doesn't want to let go.  Your in for one heck of a ride with Magen McMinimy's Blood Claim.

2.5 stars. The story is interesting, but the writing is very amateur. The entire book is first person and most everything is just announced as happening. You don't feel like the story is unfolding, so much as being told this happened then this happened etc.
Also, the characters all speak with one voice. There is really no difference in anyone's speaking parts.
However, I still enjoyed the book and am just assuming these things are because Ms. McMinimy is a novice self published author. I could be wrong but I liked another book of hers and intend to read more.
I received this book as an ARC from the author. (I have since purchased it) This is a different take on a vampire book. I do enjoy paranormal stories, especially ones with a strong female lead character, which is what we have here. Sophia is the kind of woman that many of us try not to be, but have to become to keep our lives going in the direction we want. Sophia is trying to protect an innocent, something many women can relate to. She finds a beautiful man and wants to spend time with him. The story ends in a cliffhanger, and I refuse to give anything away. If you like vampire stories, give this one a try. It is a quick, but enjoyable read! {babusbookshelf.blogspot.com}
I enjoyed this book. It's a new twist on vampire lore. The characters are awesome. Sophia ( the fabled Half-Blood princess) sets out to end an age old dispute. She had found the ancestor that her evil brother wanted to destroy. She had to protect those she loved and was willing to do whatever she could. There was plenty of action, suspense, supernatural battles, love and heartache. This is book one of a series and I have to know what's going to happen next. The is is definitely a great read!!
I enjoyed this start to the series. I went in aware it was a series and read it anyway. I am very picky about reading series as they tend to go sour or lose my interest with repetitiveness. My only complaint about the book...just wanted more. I would have enjoyed a little more fleshing out..but all in all, what a great read. The book synopsis gives you an idea, but does not even give you a hint of what is really in the book. The end is a cliff hanger, a big one. This is not an HEA, it is definitely a page turner, and I will read the rest of the series. I would recommend this to my book club to read.
I love vampires but this is not your typical vampire tale! Sophia is half vampire half human wth?? How is that even possible? Well read the story and there actually is a pretty convincing story for it. Sophia is on the run from her sadistic brother Irad, you love to hate him! While on the run she finds someone she needs to protect from Irad. In the mean time she starts a new life and you can't help but fall in love with her. I can't wait to see what happens next!
Great read that I could not put down. I have been reading nothing but Magen's books this weekend and I'm so mad at myself for not reading them sooner. I was burnt out on the same old vampire stories over and over again, this was a breath of fresh air for the genre.

Sophia is not your normal vampire. She is the half blood princess, that most people don't think really exists. She is on the run from her brother and ex, while trying to save "the ancestor" from one of her brothers. I loved most of the characters, Irad and Kara, mostly. But every story needs someone to hate. I can't wait to read the other books in this series. Magen is becoming one of my new favorite authors, that I will buy anything she writes. I'm hooked!!
Please note I read books 5-7 before starting this book. I'd say a 4.5 star review

As I started reading this book I was intrigued by the way we learned about each individual character and the detail we were given. I instantly fell in love with Sophia and enjoyed the pop in the love scenes. I got so into the story that I was very upset when it just ended. I do not think that it ended well and I was glad that I had the other books to continue the story. There was plenty of action and love intermixed to make a wonderfully intriguing story. I would recommend this book but only if you have the first 4 books with it because in my opinion it didn't really end it just paused. I am glad to see that it was edited however there are still errors that are occasionally distracting.

Aparently I must have gotten this book when it was free but I was reading from a reviewer copy from the author.
